To My Dearest Bindu πΏ
"With a few betel leaves and areca nuts, our elders said out loud what my heart had been whispering since August 10th β she is the one."

On September 6th, our families sat together and exchanged Aku Vakka β the betel leaves and betel nuts that, in our tradition, carry so much more than their simple appearance. They carry auspiciousness, respect, and the formal joining of two families into one.
As the tambulam passed from hand to hand and the elders gave their blessings, I watched you, and I realised that this was the moment our story stopped being just ours. It became our familiesβ story, our ancestorsβ story, and the beginning of the home we will build together.
And then came the moment I will always keep close β you, in that beautiful purple saree, receiving your engagement saree from my parents with such grace and a shy smile. Watching my mother and father place it in your hands, I knew you were no longer just the girl I love; you were the daughter they had welcomed into our family with open arms.
Every ritual that day β the leaves, the nuts, the turmeric, the blessings β was a promise made in front of everyone we love. But the promise I made silently, looking at you, was the deepest one of all: to honour you, to stand by you, and to make every day of this journey worthy of that sacred beginning.
βThe betel leaf is offered whole, never torn β because what our families joined that day is meant to stay whole, for a lifetime and beyond.β
Thank you for being the reason our families came together, and for being the blessing they all recognised the moment they saw you. This chapter is the one where βyou and meβ became βus,β officially and forever. πΏβ¨
